Baker Creek vs The Purple Tomato - Did they lie??
Переглядів 4,8 тис.5 місяців тому
In today's video we are discussing the various alleged offenses committed by one Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, and how they got tangled up in controversy again- this time with Norfolk Healthy Produce, makers of The Purple Tomato, a GMO tomato that just hit the market. This marks the first time a GMO seed is available to home gardeners and has many of those gardeners bickering about whether this s...

Wow what a gift to receive! I’d be thrilled! Also I don’t think Danvers are hybrid…they’d say F1 or something no? Pretty sure the number just means that’s the selection in a trial that worked best. Or something. Or at least that’s (close to) what I’ve heard…🫠
I have an indoor one. I've had it almost a year now. She's really big! Lol found your video because she now has this pretty flowering part on the top and im not sure what to do!
I snip the flowers off because coleus tend to die off once they accomplish their “mission” of producing seeds
My cat laid on my colious that I've been growing for months from seeds 😢 I'm hoping they will revive in water 💧
I made a video on this months back before BC and Norfolk went public. I contacted Norfolk and they were open and honest with me right away in their e-mails. BC on the other hand passed me around different people before ghosting me.
Why am I not surprised?
0:49 had to check when you put this video out…thought you were talking about just the events in July 2024!
lol nope just a millennial that is so so so tired of living history 😅 this month has been the longest 10 years so far
Thank you for the turkey baster idea
Please don't forget to mention that "Coleus" plants are toxic to animals! " house pets!" Please keep them out of reach! That you for your tutorial video. 🙏😊❤👍
Diatomaceous earth was my savior
I use that outside a lot, it’s great stuff!
Sow-rite seeds the best. I’m in zone five had a large cherry tomato plant productive, very productive. I had sown this particular plant inside last year. It was unable to pick all of the cherries as the next day in November would be frost. I mean this plant was productive with blossoms all the way through November I went out to my garden this year in April, well much to my surprise I found eight tomato plants growing on their own so apparently the plant overwintered itself and instead of five plants I have 15 maybe 18 the best seeds on the market you better get yourself some❤
Couldn’t agree more!
Love your vids
I’m sorry if this question was addressed in one of the other 272 comments. What if my coleus looks full from pinching, but now the branches are dropping? Getting plenty of light in a window and I use a moisture meter so I don’t think I’m over or under watering. The plant looks super healthy, just not standing up straight. Is it too many leaves?
Where can I buy these bugs tho
Natures good guys or arbico organics
Thank you for being aggressive. Mine was beautiful but getting taller and the weight was making the middle look like It had a hole. I went a little ruthless and thought I cut too much. I am hopeful she’ll be okay with her new baby props 🌱 Thank you for not being dainty with them! I feel better.
“Thank you for being aggressive” is going to be my autobiography title 😂
Hello, I loved it. Where is the second part?
I did an update on a live stream once but I’m not sure if I ever did a “part 2” They grow really, really slow so they’re about the size of a dime or nickel now. I potted them up after a year and a half I believe, just into a small clay pot with cactus soil and they’re doing great.
@@PamsPrettyPlants Thank you! Well the seeds are growing and they have little thorns or I don't know how to call it but I'm worried about the transplant to a bigger pot and the soil. Thanks again. I really enjoyed this video.
@joselynrosario5265 they’re pretty resilient, don’t stress too much! I picked out the biggest ones, some just never really grew while others did, so I tossed the stalled out ones and kept the winners. I waited until they were about pea sized and used tweezers to make a little hole in dampened cactus soil and then to gently move them. Diluted fertilizer here and there helps too in bulking them up some. I’m a chronic under waterer and they’re held up great so just don’t over water and you should be just fine! Good luck!
This is so vindicating, because Joel Salatin has ALWAYS given me sooooo much ick and I never knew why!
Trust that ick-o-meter 🫶

Great video! You answered all my questions.

I want the doggone purple-to-the-flesh tomato. I don't care that it's GMO. I don't care if it's called Purple Galaxy or Empress Limited Edition or Norfolk Purple Tomato. I'll take seeds. I'll take a couple of the tomatoes themselves. Why the heck are they virtually impossible to acquire now? I'm in New York. Where and how can I get my hands on this tomato?
Didn't start have them until, I started using worm castings.😢
Fairly certain that’s how I got them too!
You need Jesus
What did Jesus say about judging again?
I'm going to buy me a fuckit buckit.
I’m trying many colors to see what will handle 90’s and 100’s in partial shade.
Ooo that’s an interesting experiment. If you happen to think of me when it’s done, I’d love to know what you learn!
This just an opinion of their catalog's artistic photography, which is almost purely ad copy. So I came up with the term to describe this as SEED PORN, a few years ago! agoseed
If you think golden rice is a "Kosher" GMO, please investigate Dr. Vandana Shiva's take on the subject, and why golden rice is totally unnecessary. If anybody has the intellect, knowledge, experience and integrity to discuss the GMO subject it is Vandana.
Thanks for being natural and real
Great info on Coleus for indoor growers. I lost a Coleus to some bugs and am and on a mission to do it right this time. EDIT: Love the way you fill in the pot with those cuttings from the trimmed leggies.
Hi!....really enjoyed this video which was very informative.🇨🇦
+
Where can exotic colored coleus found? And giant coleus found?
You are hilarious 😂 and I’ve really enjoyed your videos!
This is super inspiring. Thanks for updating us. I am considering purchasing but I would first like to know specs. Do you know the kelvins and lumen for the sp250? The company lists watts, lux, etc., but not kelvins and lumens which is what I use to compare to lights. Also, does the 250 have IR and UV? Thank you!!!!
Not gonna lie to you friend, I have no idea! They are super responsive on social media though, I bet if you DMd them on IG they’d be happy to tell you. I think this particular light might be discontinued by now, this video is older, but I imagine they’ve got similar models. I can tell you that I’m on year 3 of using it full time, year round, on seedlings, turn down for houseplants, and it’s still going strong! My favorite light and the only “big” one I still use.
Thank you, Pam for responding so quickly. I just sent them a DM on IG. No response via email yet. I'm so excited about growing more food this year with the assistance of lights. I'm in NYc. Thanks again!
@irmasanchez5274 good luck I hope they respond I’ll be mad at them if they don’t! Lol
Guess what? After your message I emailed them AGAIN. Lol!!! I finally received a response last night. Woo-hoo! Thanks for your help. I'll let you know if I end up buying it.
Merry meet! Happy to have found ya 🌸
Merry meet! ✨
how far, distance wise (well, timewise as well) can the coleus cuttings travel? If you were to beg, borrow or steal (shhh...)
Hahah I’m not totally sure but my guess is if you plastic wrapped some damp peat moss around the cut end and didn’t ship it into the freezing cold or boiling heat it would be ok for 4 days at least. Coleus drop their leaves really easy but that doesn’t mean you can’t grow them back if you can get the stem to make it.
Gulp...Scary intro!
love ur shirt!
At 52 yo and still goth
It’s a life sentence 🤣
@@PamsPrettyPlants when I was 16 I had a 3 finger mowhak and wore combat boots all black and eyeliner. Middle Tennessee schools didn't know what to do lol
I’m forever referring to my plants as #humidityhoes
😂🫶
My grandmother grew beautiful coleus and I want to try, however, I'm in the PNW at an elevation of 2300ft and I only have windows facing north and south. Not much light. I just planted seeds, put them in an incubator for heat and added a light strip. Question! Now what do I do? This is my very first time planting...well, really anything except annuals from the nursery outside. Please help 🙏
Question? Is this something that can be done on a lower scale to prevent pests? or is this for only after it’s noticeable and out of hand?
It’s actually a lot less effective when things are out of hand. It’s been a while since I filmed this I cannot remember if I knew this at the time but it’s recommended to use beneficials after you’ve knocked the population down some. Since this video I started using pesticides for a round of cleaning/treatment, and then bringing in the “maintenance crew” to make sure everything that hatches gets taken care of. Just be mindful of leaving things like neem oil on the leaves as it’ll hurt the good guys as well. You can use systemic and beneficials because systemic poisons the leaf suckers/chewers whereas the beneficials only eat the pests. I hope this is helpful!
“They don’t really double them” … that is not a good thing for you to have said. That is definitely not a good thing for you to have said.
?
@@PamsPrettyPlants because now I want to buy every single one of them
Oh lol I was like “what did I do I don’t remember” 😂
@@PamsPrettyPlants I’m sorry, I know it’s so hard to put tone down in words, I thought it sounded jovial
You’re totally fine, I’m coming off three weeks of commenter abuse from one of my last videos so I’m a little off on my internet tone interpretation. 😅
BC seed have always germinated well for me. Some other companies not so much. Free shipping and decent prices. All I care about. Drama I could care less about. Everything is a drama now. It has gotten very old.
👍🏻
I completely agree. No one or company of several hundred/thousand people is perfect. I didn't understand the controversy.
@lauracampos6183 morals are hard to explain when you lack the ones being discussed.

Love you! You are adorable and such a great plant mom!
You are too kind 🫶 🥰
I can’t believe I have to explain this to adults in 2024, but if you call me names in your comment, they will get deleted BY UA-cam. Absolute brilliant minds some of you have, truly. You really see through the matrix. 😂
But if you wrote racist trash in my comments or cried about your TOS violation being deleted, I absolutely did block you because you’re annoying and it’s my channel and I can do whatever I want. 😘
Great post. BC is not without issues. Will continue to buy from them. Have not experienced issues with germination or incorrect seeds from BC. Have no interest in purple tomatoes.
